MICHAEL JACKSON WEEK: Favorite MJ Song/Video?

Ok, I am very partial when it comes to Michael Jackson. I love his smooth dance tracks, along with his soaring, epic ballads. As we celebrate Michael Jackson's legacy this week, leading up to Halloween, what is your favorite Michael Jackson video and/or song?

I will name my top 10 (if that's possible) in the next couple of days. As far as rare videos, take a look at the banned video for "Who Is It" (not sure WHY they banned this in the U.S.), featured in Jackson's 1991 Dangerous album. The song was a top 20 pop hit and a #1 dance hit for Michael in 1992. The video is pretty cool, and the song actually sounds better today than it did back then.  In addition, I've posted an unreleased track called "We've Had Enough", featured in a 2005 Ultimate Collection album released in the UK. The song is a soaring ballad about the horrors of war.

Gaga's New Hit: Bad Romance

Gaga is unstoppable! She's planning a special re-release of her debut album The Fame: Monster with eight new tracks on Nov. 23 (and a possible Beyoncé duet). In addition, she's lending a special cameo appearance on Beyoncé's next video for "Video Phone" in which she does her own version of Beyoncé!  Stay tuned.  RA-RA-RA-RA!

Below are two special treats. Take a listen to Gaga's hot new single, "Bad Romance", and also a look at her Saturday Night Live performance earlier this month.

iTunes Treat: "Whatcha Say" Video FREE this WEEK

"Whatcha Say" by Jason DeRulo - This song, currently #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart, has been in my head since pop radio is playing this song in heavy rotation in New Orleans. The video is available for FREE on iTunes this week! So don't wait...go get it now. DeRulo is a 20-year old musical protegé. He's been writing songs since the age of 8, and recently he's written songs for Pitbull and Keyshia Cole. DeRulo's debut album is expected to be released early 2010.

Adam Glamazon - New Album Cover

Ok kids...check it out. Our favorite 2009 Idol has finally released his album cover. And it's going to be typical glam-rock-pop-dance like Mr. Lambert himself...

The Lambert machine has already rocked two major magazine covers this year.

Juz B-Cuz: Otis Redding & Pretty in Pink anyone?

How does a classic John Hughes teen film and Otis Redding come together with absolute magical charisma? Check this out...I love this performance by Jon Cryer (as Duckie) in the 1986 film Pretty in Pink. Cryer does a stand-out lip-syncing performance to one of Redding's biggest love croons, "Try a Little Tenderness".

Juz B-Cuz: Whitney's "Didn't We Almost Have It All"

Ok...sappy yes, but heartfelt. Here is 1987's #1 hit for Whitney Houston. The clip may cut off at the end, but you get the gist of it. :(

Dance the pain away? Listen to this...

I am a huge lover of dance music (as you may already know), but I'm not a big fan when someone does you wrong. However, songs that emulate the pain are powerful even on the dancefloor.

Listen to "Man on the Run", one of this year's hottest trance tracks from Dash Berlin with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren (formally Alice Deejay and Candee Jay). Lyrics below.

You stole a kiss and stole my heart
made me a fool right from the start
It wouldn’t have been so bad except
this little plan, it fell apart
If I were you
I’d dare not speak
I’d run like hell
In hopes of seein’ tomorrow
It’s such a travesty
the way you say our love should be
yeah, such a tragedy
think you can just break my heart and leave me
well you better run
Oh, man on the run
playin’ for fun
wind me up
leave me undone
It’s such a travesty
the way you say our love should be
yeah, such a tragedy
think you can just break my heart and leave me
well you better run
Oh, man on the run
playin’ for fun
wind me up
leave me undone
These lips are sealed, I’ll never speak
your name in loving memory
so don’t you try to make ammends
that’s what ya get for playin’ mean
If I were you
I’d dare not speak
I’d run like hell
In hopes of seein’ tomorrow
Ahhhh, break my heart and leave me
Man on the run
It’s such a travesty
the way you say our love should be
yeah, such a tragedy
think you can just break my heart and leave me
well you better run
Oh, man on the run
playin’ for fun
wind me up
leave me undone

Ugly Betty musical sequence

Speaking of TV, did anyone watch the awesome first episode of ABC's Ugly Betty last Friday? Apparently moving it to Fridays was a BIG mistake! The ratings were dismal with only 5 million viewers, down a considerable amount from last season. However, back to the subject at hand - music. I love this clip with the music background to a dream sequence - ultra dramatic and hilarious, all in high Betty style of course. And to jump on the musical bandwagon, producers to the show have announced there will be a musical episode in early 2010. Cool - even more hijinks!

Madonna bares all to Glee

I have YET to see Glee, but I know it's getting quite a lot of buzz and hype. So I will do my best to catch an episode. The news got even better for the show today cause of one powerful music industry icon. Madonna has given the rights to her entire music catalog to the producers of the Fox hit. Therefore, expect to hear some of your favorite Madge hits in an early 2010 episode.

You might be asking yourself - so what? Well this Gleeful group has already charted at the top of iTunes with a remake of Journey's "Don's Stop Believing" over the summer; and their other remakes/renditions are charting all throughout the iTunes chart listing.

And to those Gleeks out there, here is a clip from the show featuring Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" -

Juz B-Cuz: Lauryn Hill's "Ex-Factor"

My JBC trend continues...I've been having this song ("Ex-Factor") in my head by Lauryn Hill. The song hit the top ten in 1998. The lyrics are pretty deep, touching on the difficulties of being in a relationship, even though one person gives their heart and soul while the other makes it harder to love and can't seem to make up their mind (sigh). Smooth, yet very heartfelt song.

It could all be so simple
But you'd rather make it hard
Loving you is like a battle
And we both end up with scars
Tell me, who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
No one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

Is this just a silly game
That forces you to act this way
Forces you to scream my name
Then pretend that you can't stay
Tell me, who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
No one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

Hook:
No matter how I think we grow
You always seem to let me know
It ain't workin'
It ain't workin'
And when I try to walk away
You'd hurt yourself to make me stay
This is crazy
This is crazy

I keep letting you back in
How can I explain myself
As painful as this thing has been
I just can't be with no one else
See I know what we got to do
You let go and I'll let go too
'Cause no one's hurt me more than you
And no one ever will

Repeat Hook

Care for me, care for me
I know you care for me

There for me, there for me
Said you'd be there for me

Cry for me, cry for me
You said you'd die for me

Give to me, give to me
Why won't you live for me
(Repeat)

Mariah on Precious

My campaign begins today. Remember it now, the Oscars will be all about Precious, based on the 1996 novel Push by Sapphire. The film has won numerous Audience Awards at various film festivals including the Grand Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.  The movie introduces first time actress, Gabourey Sidibe, along with pivotal performances by Mo'Nique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Patton and Sherri Shepherd. The film is scheduled to be released Nov. 6.

Juz B-Cuz: Phil Collins' Against All Odds

Ok, I may start a new theme here. There are certain days when a song (from way-back) just gets stuck in my head. Phil Collins' 1984 #1 hit, "Against All Odds", is no exception. Therefore, since it's in my head I bring you the song for reminiscing its greatness.

Video -

Lyrics -
How can i just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace
When i stand here taking every breath with you, ooh
You're the only one who really knew me at all

How can you just walk away from me,
When all i can do is watch you leave
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against all odds and that's what i've got to face

I wish i could just make you turn around,
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much i need to say to you,
So many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space

But to wait for you, is all i can do and that's what i've got to face
Take a good look at me now, cos i'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance i've gotta take

Take a look at me now

Ingrid's Breakup Song (Wa-Wa)

Indie-pop singer Ingrid Michaelson's continues to show her amazing lyrical and melodic talent with her new single, "Maybe". Michaelson described the song as your typical break-up song, but of course the song displays the heartfelt vocals and hopefulness of reuniting with that special someone. Her 4th studio album Everybody was released in August. This new single is slowly grabbing the attention of listeners. Here's hoping it will continue to rise even higher. Lyrics posted below. In addition, I also posted the Old Navy commercial featuring "The Way I Am" that sparked my interest of her music a few years ago.

Here is her delightful performance on today's Good Morning America -

This is the official music video for the song -

These are the lyrics to the single:

I don't wanna be the one to say, "Goodbye" but I will
I will
I will
I don't wanna sit on the pavement while you fly but I will
I will
Oh
Yes
I will

'Cause maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back around
Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back
Oh
The only way to really know is to really let it go
Maybe you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back
You're gonna come back to me

I don't wanna be the first to let it go
Oh
But I know
I know
I know if you have the last hands that I want to hold
Then I know I've got to let them go

'Cause maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back around
Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back
Oh
The only way to really know is to really let it go
Maybe you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back
You're gonna come back

I still feel you on the right side of the bed
And I still feel you in the blankets pulled over my head
And I'm gonna wash away
(I'm gonna wash away)
Oh
I'm gonna wash away everthing 'til you come home to me

Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back in the future
You're gonna come back
You're gonna come back

'Cause maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back around
Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
You're gonna come back
Oh
The only way to really know is to really let it go

Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
(You're gonna come back)
You're gonna come back around
Maybe in the future you're gonna come back
(You're gonna come back)
You're gonna come back around
Oh
The only way to really know is to really let it go
(Maybe in the future you're gonna come back)
(You're gonna come back around)
Maybe you're gonna come back
(You're gonna come back)
You're gonna come back
You're gonna come back to me

Mmm
You're gonna come back to me
You're gonna come back to me

Whitney's Wardrobe Lets Loose

Whitney Houston performed Sunday on the most watched episode of the UK's talent competition, X-Factor. During her performance of "Million Dollar Bill", her dress straps popped off (check 2:15 into the video and Houston's facial expression at 2:30). Despite the wardrobe malfunction, Whitney gave a helluva performance, to the delight of Simon Cowell in the judge's panel booth.

O-NO! A-ha breaks up! 80s are officially over...

Say it ain't so! The Norwegian pop group who forever remains famous with their 1985 classic single and video, "Take on Me", announced they are going their separate ways just months after having a top ten UK album. According to the BBC, the reason for the trio's breakup is to pursue "other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics, or whatever else." And music didn't do that??? Ahhh...a world without a-ha to sing us that classic 80s tune. Are the 80s officially over? What's your input?

Usher's New Single

Usher will be releasing a new album titled Raymond Vs. Raymond on Dec. 8. The new album's material may appear to reflect Usher's failed marriage considering the lyrics to the first single "Papers". The song debut at #17 this week on Billboard's R&B Charts. Usher's last album Here I Stand debut at #1 last year and included the #1 single, "Love in this Club". What do you think of his new song? Too personal? Not the Usher vibe you're used to?

Kris Allen covers Britney

Kris Allen did a tight acoustic cover of Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time" at an Ohio high school concert. Allen performed at an all-girl high school after promising a concert once the students raised $5,000 for breast-cancer research. Allen's self-titled album will be released on Nov. 17.

Shakira's New Song on DWTS

Shakira premiered a new song titled "Did It Again" on last night's Dancing With The Stars performance. Her new album was released this week in selected countries in Europe and Latin America. Leona Lewis Punched!

According to reports, 24-year old singer Leona Lewis was punched in the face by a 29-year old man at a bookstore in London as she signed copies of her autobiography titled "Dreams". Lewis became an instant star after winning Britain's music competition show "The X Factor" in 2006. Last year she released her debut album Spirit which yielded two hits, "Bleeding Love" and "Better in Time". Her next album Echo is expected to be released next month. Her new single "Happy" has already been released on this side of the Atlantic. What a shame to do such a thing to her beautiful face...

Britney's "3" will debut as #1

Grrr...lost the original post to this. Anyhow, the news is out that Britney Spear's "3" single will debut at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart this week. It's her third single to reach #1 (behind "...Baby One More Time" (1999) and "Womanizer" last year). Other songs to debut at #1 this decade include American Idol alums such as Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud" (2006), "Inside My Heaven", Carrie Underwood (2005), "I Believe", Fantasia (2004) and "This Is The Night", Clay Aiken (2003).

In the 90s, Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" was the very first song to debut at #1 in 1995. That same year "Fantasy" by Mariah Carey and "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" by Whitney Houston both debut at #1.

In other chart news, Michael Bublé's Crazy Love has the #1 album after only three days of release. Hmmm, do you sense a 'three (3)' theme going on here...

EXCLUSIVE - Michael Jackson "This Is It" footage

In celebration of Michael's outstanding 6 AMA nominations, I have three special clips to share from the "This Is It" footage. Most of you may have already seen these clips on TV and via other media outlets. However, I still want to share it to those who haven't seen them. The first footage shows Jackson performing vigorously to "They Don't Care About Us" with voice clips of Martin Luther King, Jr. The second is a shorter clip rehearsing to "Human Nature". Plus, I added his final public appearance last March announcing the upcoming "This Is It" tour.

Muse's Uprising is AWESOME

Not sure if you're hearing the buzz about Muse - this British alternative rock band that seems to be making waves here in the U.S. They recently performed on the MTV Video Music Awards for their first ever U.S. televised performance. Their fifth studio album The Resistance was released on Sept. 11.

Check out their cool video for "Uprising" - teddy bears won't be the same after you watch it. LOL.

Bublé's Smooth New Track

Check out Michael Bublé's "Haven't Met You Yet"...smooth, fun track from his new album Crazy Love, which is #1 on iTunes album charts.

Gaga "Imagines"

Lady Gaga's sang John Lennon's "Imagine" at the 13th Annual Human Resource Command National Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Gaga changed a few words to the song to defend gay rights. Her rendition came a day before 200,000 people marched Oct. 11 in the nation's capitol. Protestors lined along the National Mall to protest civil rights for gays in hopes the Obama Administration will change policies.

Ballad King & Queen

Who do you think are the crowning King & Queen who master a collection of some of the best love songs in music? I was thinking Lionel Richie and Celine Dion seem to have quite a knack for belting out ballads. Here are some of their best:

LIONEL RICHIE

"Hello" (1984)

"Truly" (1982)

"Stuck on You" (1983)

"You Are" (1983)

"Just to be Close to You" (1976)

CELINE DION

"My Heart Will Go On" (1998)

"It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (1996)

"The Power of Love" (1994)

"All By Myself" (1996)

"To Love You More" (1997)

"Where Does My Heart Beat Now" (1991)

Madonna on David Letterman

How did I miss this? I think most of us did - Madonna on David Letterman on Sept. 30 (a rare occasion indeed). Her appearance was before Letterman's extortion sex scandal came out last week. Too bad she missed the opportunity to give him a few Madonna-worthy words...

Mariah isn't #1

Ok...before I go any further. Some people may think I am a die-hard Mariah Carey fan. Well, I am. I'm not afraid to admit it. She's been quite an influence on my love of music since 1990 when she first came out. Therefore, it comes as a shock to me and most music industry insiders to know Mariah Carey's latest album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel did not debut at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Album Charts...

...and worse, she didn't even debut at #2...she came in at #3 selling 168,000, not as stellar as 2008's E=MC2 debut of 463,000 giving her a #1 album last year, which was her highest first-week totals ever.

So who came in at #1? Shockingly enough, Barbra Streisand with Love is the Answer, marking her ninth #1 album and extending Streisand's lead as the top female act with the most #1s on Billboard's Album Charts. Coming in at #3 is Paramore's third album, Brand New Eyes.

In other chart news, Mariah almost had an even worse week. The Black Eyes Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" tied Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" last week as having the most consecutive weeks at #1 this decade with 14. This week, Jay Sean's "Down" finally dethroned the Peas to maintain the tie, and to also end the record-breaking 26 consecutive weeks at #1 for Peas with both "Boom Boom Pow" and their second single.

Carrie Underwood's Cowboy Video

Haven't SEEN the new Carrie Underwood video? "Cowboy Casanova"...it's #1 on iTunes top videos. Personally it's pure Carrie Underwood, but I would have liked a little bit more action quarreling with the opposite sex. Her new album Play On will be released on Nov. 3.

Check it out here:

Adam Lambert's 2012 Song

American Idol Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert is causing even more buzz with the anticipated single, "Time for Miracles", from the upcoming 2012 film soundtrack. According to the film's producers, the track won't be the lead single, but it proves Lambert shouldn't have any worries once this power ballad is released. Lambert's album is slated for a Nov. 24 release. Season 8 winner Kris Allen will release his own album a week earlier on Nov. 17. Stay tuned!

There is no doubt that the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" is one of the very best ballads of all time.

Ballad Request - Patsy Cline's Crazy

Another great ballad - and actually one of the best of all time...Patsy Cline's "Crazy".

Written by willie nelson

Crazy
Crazy for feeling so lonely
Im crazy
Crazy for feeling so blue

I knew
Youd love me as long as you wanted
And then someday
Youd leave me for somebody new

Worry
Why do I let myself worry
Wondrin
What in the world did I do

Crazy
For thinking that my love could hold you
Im crazy for tryin
Crazy for cryin
And Im crazy
For lovin you

EXCLUSIVE - Lady Gaga Vs. Madonna: SNL Clip

Lady Gaga and Madonna made their first appearance together -performing on a Saturday Night Live skit tonight - with a kiss, well almost. Madonna has hosted and made special appearances before; Lady Gaga was the musical performer tonight.

Here is the exclusive clip:

Ballad Request - 4 Strings

By request...and for a Saturday night, this is a trance ballad per say...I guess dance the tears away.

Lyrics:
Songwriters: Loechel, Jan; Resoort, Carlo

Stars shine brighten when you look at me
Day or night you're comin' over me
I see right through you, I know you feel it too
Nothing' to lose I need too, I have too

Until you love me

I won't get out of your way
Until you love me
I don't mind I'll be okay
Until you love me

It's the way you make me feel
A desire that you reveal
Leaves me breathless on my knees
Until you love me

Ballads Week - Pick your choices

Since I decided to kick off an avalanche of Mariah Carey power ballads, I would like to hear from you - what's your favorite love song/ballad? This week send me your comments, your stories and your song choices to have me post. Please let me know what song strikes you at your soul? What tingles your heart? Which songs make you break down or remind you of that certain special someone in your heart?

Let the tear ducts flow...

Hear are some memorable ballads:

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" - Bonnie Tyler (1983)

"Nothing Compares 2U" - Sinead O' Conner (1990)

"Loving You" - Minnie Riperton (1975)

"Who's Loving You" - The Jackson Five (1972)

"Alone" - Heart (1986)

"Again" - Janet Jackson (1993)

Sad Day - Pour Some Mariah Ballads

Music and God seems to always be my bedrock, but moreso as my medicine for bad days....like today....and I always seem to fall on this classic Mariah kick...such as these songs below:

"Through the Rain" (2002)

"Can't Let Go" (1992)

"Never Forget You" (1994) - no video. Just the song.

"Love Takes Time" (1990) - no video, couldn't find an embedded one. Just listen though.

"Make It Happen" (1992) - no video, just the song here.

"If It's Over" (1992) - no video, just song here as well.

"Without You" (1994 remake)

"Bringin' On the Heartbreak" (2002 remake)

...and a synopsis of Mariah's first few songs (from "Vision of Love" to "I'll Be There"), which seem to always bring me back.
