Wrap-up: American Music Awards...snooze fest
OK...the American Music Awards are over. My first impression: What a waste. Second: Everyone sounded horrible. A night when Whitney Houston sounds like she's got her voice back then you know something's wrong with the audio system. Third: Is gaining weight the new thing? No offense, but it seems everyone put on some healthy new pounds. A few highlights - why oh why did Janet wear pants that were too baggy for her? Shakira should have performed "She Wolf"! J.Lo fell flat on her butt but got back up like a pro...Green Day should sing another song other than "21 Guns" cause even his voice seemed tired of singing it. Why was Daughtry and Mary J. on tonight's awards? Does anyone even listen to Eminem and 50 Cent anymore?? I expected more dancing from Lady Gaga despite having one of the stronger performances of the nite. Adam Lambert was all hype, no deliverance. Rihanna...forgetful.
Here are a few performances -
Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" & "Speechless"
Jay-Z & Alicia Keys - "Empire State of Mind"

OOOOh, Loving the new Alicia Keyssss!!!!
Check out Alicia Keys' new uptempo-ballad (sounds weird but it is)..."Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart"...she performed this song at the American Music Awards. I instantly loved the melody. She should have released this as her first single. Her new album The Element of Freedom comes out Dec. 15. Anyway, enough of my jibberish...click the link to see the video -

NYC goes #1 (Jay-Z + Alicia Keys single hits the top)
Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind"...Ok, why didn't this song catch me in the beginning? Well now I love this song that pays homage to my second favorite city (or second home), New York City. The song finally reaches the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100. Congrats NYC. Perhaps Lil' Wayne can pay homage to New Orleans (with a duet featuring Harry Connick Jr. - classic right??)....
Shakira literally WOKE UP America...
Shakira performed two songs on ABC's Good Morning America on Thursday; and she did not fail to deliver that Shakira magic with her tantalizing howls and hips. Her new album She Wolf will be released next week! Can't wait!

Bon Jovi - #1 Album? Yup
It seems the boys from Jersey still have it. Bon Jovi's latest album The Circle bows at #1 with over 163,000 copies sold. This is the band's fourth #1 album. They claimed two #1 albums in the 80s, and two this decade. Take a listen to the anthem-driven (of course!) single, "We Weren't Born to Follow" -
EXCLUSIVE: New Jennifer Lopez single
Hear JLO's new single from her upcoming new album. The single "Louboutins" pays homage to that certain high-end shoe maker. Typical JLO? A throw back to "My Love Don't Cost a Thing"? Or has Lopez lost her musical touch?

FU Alert - Another powerful Lily Allen concert clip
If you're easily offended, or not a fan of the "F" word (neither am I) - then don't click the link below. For those of you who do click, if you ever felt frustrated with society, situations or whatever, you sometimes just want to say it, but say it with a smile. Then of course, pray. God comes first. Btw, Lily Allen actually made a song about it sound rather joyful. I have shown previous video/tv appearance clips on the song on previous posts. However, this concert footage from France actually really does a great job of showcasing the song's power.

Loving BEP's "Meet Me Halfway"
Are they unstoppable? The Black Eyed Peas' third single from their clever The E.N.D. album is a charm. "Meet Me Halfway" transcends away from the bumping club sounds of "Boom Boom Pow" and the stadium anthem sounds of "I Gotta Feeling" to a more low-key, melodic, hypnotic beat and vocals that keep me humming to it.

New Artist Watch: Ke$ha's "Tik Tok"
American song-writer was her known title before; now she's becoming the latest music force to climb up the charts. Ke$ha's debut single, "Tik Tok" is already on the Billboard Top 20 and inching closer to iTunes #1 spot. She's no newcomer, however. Ke$ha's voice was featured earlier this year is FloRida's #1 hit "Right Round", and she's written songs for several major artists including Miley Cyrus and even TV shows. Her public image may be one to watch as well; she's been seen tagging along the likes of Katy Perry and Lily Allen. Her debut album will be released in early 2010. She's currently touring with electronic mastermind Calvin Harris.
Leona's "Happy": Why no airplay??
I'm not quite sure why Leona Lewis' "Happy" isn't getting more airplay on radio. It's growing on me. Her new album Echo will be released next week on Nov. 17. Here is the new video to the heartfelt song:
Lady Gaga's Best Video Yet? "Bad Romance" is finally in...
Gaga's gone LOCA...but I'm loving it. Her new video for "Bad Romance" is sleek, cool, innovative...strange (but it's Gaga of course) and numerous raw layers of Gaga. See for yourself. Her re-release of The Fame Monster will be Nov. 23 with eight new tracks.

"Hey Soul Sister" - Great New Train Song!
So when I go to the gym, I normally don't wear my iPod in fear of breaking it. Of course, music at the gym isn't always the best. Well, let me not lie, it sucks. Sorry, off subject. Anyhow, every now and then they play a song that catches my ear. Luckily, with the iPhone app Shazam I can instantly find out who the artist and song is that is playing. So it was to my surprise that Train is back with a new song and album. Their new album Save Me, San Francisco was released last month. Their new single "Hey Soul Sister" sounds fresh and like an anthem. Great new song to sing along to!
Lily Allen's Album - Will the Grammys recognize her for Album of the Year?
As the Grammy nominations grow closer, I know there are numerous artists vying for the coveted Album of the Year. I normally try to not pay too much attention to what the Grammys think cause music comes in many different tastes and styles for every individual's liking. However, I am giving my two cents here by boasting about Lily Allen's It's Not Me, It's You album (released last February) and hoping it gets recognized as one of the Albums of the Year when the nominations are announced. Considering her self implosion on British tabloids, Allen does have a knack for honest, raw lyrics to represent social mindsets in our day in age. For example, she talks about society's expectations on young women with her song "22", materialism on "The Fear", war on "F**K You" and even the ups and downs of sex on "Not Fair".
And FYI - the troubled 24-year Brit pop star announced a few weeks ago she would no longer be recording records and leaving her record contract at EMI. Considering her tabloidish behaviors in the past, perhaps this may be another one of Allen's tryst with the tabloids. If it is true, then it would be quite a shame.
Here are two other songs from her current album:

Mika's Second Single: Two Different Ones for US and UK
Let's just say that Mika is one of the more original artists around. He certainly stands out from the clutter of clones in the music industry. One more thing, he's one of Lady Gaga's good friends. These two certainly share high levels of creativity and uniqueness. Mika's second album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, was released this past September. Mika has released his second single; two different ones for different sides of the Atlantic. Personally, I like both, but I am leaning towards the UK one.

Lily Allen says F**K YOU with a hit!
Those British! How subtle can they be...LOL. I am falling in love with Lily Allen's music. While some may find her offensive, you have to admit her songs have a catch to them. Her current album It's Not Me, It's You yielded little US hits, but she still a major deal in the UK. Here's hoping she catches on here.

Allison Iraheta is HERE TO STAY
I am finally listening to the full version of Allison Iraheta's new single "Friday I'll Be Over You" from her upcoming debut album (out Dec. 1st). Iraheta, as most of you SHOULD remember, was the 4th runner up (and I was rooting for her to win the American Idol title). However, after listening to this first single, I have no worries that this young rocker chic will be around for awhile. This song is buzzing and funky, and certainly a reminder of Kelly Clarkson with just a bit more edge.

Jay Sean's New Single - Another Hit, Another Sean
After boasting a huge US invasion with his #1 "Down" hit, Jay Sean has released his second single from his upcoming debut US album. The second single, "Do You Remember", includes another 'sean' - Sean Paul and Lil' Jon. If you're ready to jam, the track is now available on iTunes. My first impression of this single - another hit...very bouncy like the first single.
